For the women

iwd_header_15

For the women who carve their own identities from deep roots
For the women who take baby steps in women’s shoes
For the women who seek solace in their abandonment
For the women who hide wounded hearts behind fierce pride
For the women who don’t know how to but push on through
For the women who lost their souls only to be reborn
For the women who create, seek and see through watery eyes
For the women who feel deeply to move mountains
For the women who are slashed and burnt but keep walking
For the women who find new life from the battlefield
For the women who are haunted by the nights, always the nights
For the women who love without boundary or condition
For the women who live unlimited and exposed
For the women who stand among adults yet kneel like children
For the women who hunger with a famine never fed
For the women who were torn from the womb too soon
For the women who yearn for a touch long since lost
For the women who sit beneath the blossom awaiting tender reunion
For the women who share my searching heart
For these women are the motherless daughters

I wrote this poem for International Women’s Day last year as my entry for a women’s poetry competition. It seemed timely to share it again today!

    • Honestly, reading it back, I am not as happy with it as I could be, but I haven’t had much time to write new stuff lately and it seemed fitting for the occasion. Good to see you Brian. I am HOPING to stop by and join you later at Poetics ๐Ÿ™‚
